Louise Abbott, a McGill graduate, has been a professional writer-cum-documentary photographer since 1971, and a professional documentary filmmaker since 1991. Spurred by an interest in cultural minorities living in out-of-the-way places, she has documented English-speaking outports and Inuit settlements in Quebec as well as French-speaking fishing villages in Newfoundland. In 1996 she won a Canada Council grant to produce a collection of essays about the English-speaking minority in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, where she makes her home.
