Ambrogio leaves England to go to Italy where he pursues his great interest---Gypsies. From childhood on he has been fascinated by these peoples. There he becomes embroiled in the war betwen France and England but is safe enough in Tuscany where he meets a wandering storyspinner who tells him a magical story about a Gypsy babe captur ed by a demon.
