Publisher's Notes
At the age of twenty-five, Sorrel Wilby had already traveled alone on bicycle trough Japan, Korea and China when she was seized with the idea of walking solo across Tibet. After securing the unexpected cooperation of the Chinese authorities, Wilby embarked on a three-month, 1,900-mile journey through barren desert plains, across 16,000-foot mountain passes and into isolated hamlets where no Westerner had ever been seen. Following tracks that were often no more than goat trails, Wilby found herself entirely dependent on the help of Tibetan nomads, whose unfailing generosity and kindness amazed and sustained her. Communicating mainly in the universal language of gesture and goodwill, Wilby found that her trek quickly evolved from a daredevil adventure to a journey of self-discovery and personal revelation. By turns riveting and reflective, Sorrel Wilby's tale is a highly entertaining and inspiring story that captures the sensibility of a remote land and its people--and one woman's remarkable spirit of adventure.

The Sunshine Coast
by Howard White
BC's Sunshine Coast is 100 miles of craggy shoreline just 40 minutes north of Vancouver. From Gibsons -- where the popular series The Beachcombers introduced viewers all over the world to the coast's scenic wonders -- to Jervis Inlet, Powell River, Lund and Desolation Sound, the stories and images in this book cover the waterfront -- from the deep rain forests, to the profuse wildlife, to the logging camps, Indian villages and bustling ports, with plenty of lesser-known points of interest not visible from the history books or the highway.

Fugitives and Refugees
by Chuck Palahniuk
Want to know where Chuck Palahniuk’s tonsils currently reside? Been looking for a naked mannequin to hide in your kitchen cabinets? Curious about Chuck’s debut in an MTV music video? What goes on at the Scum Center? How do you get to the Apocalypse Café? In the closest thing he may ever write to an autobiography, Chuck Palahniuk provides answers to all these questions and more as he takes you through the streets, sewers, and local haunts of Portland, Oregon. According to Katherine Dunn, author of the cult classic Geek Love , Portland is the home of America’s “fugitives and refugees.” Get to know these folks, the “most cracked of the crackpots,” as Palahniuk calls them, and come along with him on an adventure through the parts of Portland you might not otherwise believe actually exist. No other travel guide will give you this kind of access to “a little history, a little legend, and a lot of friendly, sincere, fascinating people who maybe should’ve kept their mouths shut.” Here are strange personal museums, weird annual events, and ghost stories. Tour the tunnels under downtown Portland. Visit swingers’ sex clubs, gay and straight. See Frances Gabe’s famous 1940s Self-Cleaning House. Look into strange local customs like the I-Tit-a-Rod Race and the Santa Rampage. Learn how to talk like a local in a quick vocabulary lesson. Get to know, I mean really get to know, the animals at the Portland zoo. Oh, the list goes on and on.
