At the age of twenty-five, Sorrel Wilby had already traveled alone on bicycle trough Japan, Korea and China when she was seized with the idea of walking solo across Tibet. After securing the unexpected cooperation of the Chinese authorities, Wilby embarked on a three-month, 1,900-mile journey through barren desert plains, across 16,000-foot mountain passes and into isolated hamlets where no Westerner had ever been seen.
Following tracks that were often no more than goat trails, Wilby found herself entirely dependent on the help of Tibetan nomads, whose unfailing generosity and kindness amazed and sustained her.
