This is a collection of essays by prominent Carmelite scholars. From its origins around 1200, through the sixteenth century of Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross, and into the late nineteenth century with Therese of Lisieux, the Carmelite tradition has inspired thousands. The emphasis is on contemplative prayer, in the whole tradition.
The editor, Keith J. Egan, teaches theology at St. Mary's College, Indiana. (
