Summary

Dealing with the common childhood issue of picky eating habits, BREAD AND JAM FOR FRANCES tells the story of a young badger named Frances who is not a very adventurous eater. When Frances refuses to eat her soft-boiled egg for breakfast, her chicken-salad sandwich for lunch, or her breaded veal cutlet with string beans for dinner, her frustrated parents agree that she should be served only her favorite foods-bread and jam. Although she is surprised by her parents' decision, Frances is thrilled to eat bread and jam for breakfast, and happy to find it again in her lunchbox at school. However, when her after school snack and dinner also consists of only bread and jam, Frances breaks down and admits that she would like to eat something else. Frances's parents happily agree, and soon Frances finds herself eating, and enjoying, a wide variety of foods. B&W drawings, highlighted with touches of pastel pinks and greens, accompany the text. Other stories about this feisty badger include BEDTIME FOR FRANCES, A BABY SISTER FOR FRANCES, and A BARGAIN FOR FRANCES.
