Summary
Dinky Hocker does not shoot smack, but she does have a big weight problem-and a mother who is so involved with helping recovering addicts that she won't take the time to understand her own daughter. The only ones who seem to care are Tucker, her 15-year-old neighbor, and Natalia, her cousin who is just "graduating" from a school for the mentally disturbed. Eventually, Dinky finds that only drastic measures will make her parents see how much she needs them.

Publisher's Notes
Published in 1972, Kerr's spectacularly funny and now famous first novel for young adults is not another anti-drug sermon. Dinky does not shoot smack nor is she about to--she only makes the announcement so that her mother will give her some attention.
