by Michael Andrew Kukral; Kukral M. a.

From the publisher

This volume is an account of the 1989 revolution in Prague, written by an American participant. It weaves together interviews, newspaper reports, photographs and the author's own accounts to demonstrate the meaning and role of place, both physical and symbolic, in political revolution. From the perspective of humanistic political geography, this examination is centred on Wenceslas Square, the heart of the revolution. To supplement the accounts of the event, maps and photographs are provided to produce a collective mental image of the examination of the development of meanings of the square in Czech history, especially in times of civil unrest.
