About the author

Maria Suzette Fernandes-Dias is a linguist and a post-colonial theorist. She coordinates scholarly and research activities at the Centre for Cross-Cultural Research, The Australian National University. Over the years, she has worked as Assistant Director of Alliance Francaise de Goa, Lecturer of Linguistics and Comparative literature at Goa University in India and overseas correspondent for Indo-Asian News Service. She has written and published articles for diverse readership and has won a few literary awards like the Victor-Hugo Bicentenary Award (2002), Ford Foundation Campus Diversity Award (1996), OHeraldo Award for Children's literature (1989), Vidya Award (1995 & 1996).
