The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a famous short story by Washington Irving that was published in 1820 in his collection, The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.

It tells the tale of Ichabod Crane, a poor school teacher who falls in love with a lovely girl in town and plans to court her despite his rival for her affection, Brom Bones.  After rumors of the Headless Horseman start, things get more complicated...

Fine in 1/4 dark brown leather and decorated yellow paper covered boards with gilt text on the spine and illustrated end sheets. A small quarto measuring 9 1/4" by 5 3/4". Without a dust jacket as issued; however, the book is protected within a its original paper covered slip case. This was the WESTVACO Christmas release of 1958 which was the first volume in their annual American Classic series which was published each year until 2007. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was originally part of The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. Number VI published in 1820 by C. S. Van Winckle of New York. The pseudonym of Geoffrey Crayon was used by Washington Irving while writing in England. 64 pages of text illustrated with one steel engraving. This volume was published in a limited quantity and is now exceptionally uncommon.
