Stamped in blue ink rear -"Passed by Intelligence Section Office, Chief of Staff". Written in ink rear -" 355th Battalion Q.M.C., Camp Custer, Mich. T.F. Mock Sept. 29, 1918". Unclear whether this is in Mock's handwriting. Theodore F. Mock was listed as the Camp Custer Photographer in David V. Tinder's "Directory of Early Michigan Photographers" published by Clements Library, 2013. Camp Custer, at Battle Creek, Michigan, had over 100,000 US Army troops pass through its doors between 1917-1919. The first printing of the first English-language edition. 8vo. 319pp. Oatmeal cloth lettered in green at the spine and upper board, and with the publisher's original green top edge stain now all but vanished. Backstrip lightly tanned and the top edge a little spotted. The free endpapers lightly browned and spotted and with just a touch more spotting to the half-title and to occasional leaf margins. A very good copy in the most uncommon first issue dust wrapper, non-price-clipped (7s. 6d. net) but chipped and a little tanned, with some loss from the spine panel ends, corner tips and top edge. A respectable copy of the first English edition of the author's highly celebrated Great War novel..

New York and London: Funk & Wagnalls Company, 1922. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. 12mo. 292 pages. Hardcover with a tan, blue, green and brown pictorial dust jacket, now in mylar. The jacket is worn and chipped about the edges. Headcap of the jacket spine is especially chipped. There is tear at the lower right corner of the rear panel, stretching around to the foot of the spine, and there may have been some damping there as well. The binding of the book has a little paper stuck to the cloth in this area. The book itself is sound with secure inner hinges and clean text. Collates complete with 16 photos.

No dust jacket; Front and back covers show some wear with discoloration and a couple of bent corners; Inside front cover has a previous owner's name in ink center of page; Pages are clean; Binding is tight.
