Series of old American songs : from the Harris Collection of American Poetry and Plays at Brown University with brief annotations by S. Foster Damon, curator.Fifty songs reproduced in facsimile from original or early editions. This boxed collection dates to 1936. Each page has information about the history of the song, sheet music and lyrics. Issued in 51 unbound parts, each consisting of a sheet folded to form 2 or 3 leaves. The first part contains title, preface and contents; each of the others contains a song in facsimile, with appended notes.In near fine condition, in a box. Note: The collection contains a number of blackface minstrelsy songs, an early American theatrical form characterized by deeply racist stereotypes. The images and lyrics are offensive. The collection is offered in the spirit of scholarship to those interested in early American music.

The cloth wrapped slipcase box is discolored on the bottom. Unmarked, some discoloration to the leather at the bottom of the spine of the comedies volume.

"Among the various travelogues, Hiuen Tsiang's (Xuanzang) Si-Yu-Ki or Records of the Western World, is regarded as perhaps the most valuable source book for the study of ancient Indian history.
Xuanzang (602 – 664), born Chen Hui / Chen Yi (陳禕), also known by his Sanskrit Dharma name Mōkṣadeva, was a 7th-century Chinese Buddhist monk, scholar, traveler, and translator. He is known for the epoch-making contributions to Chinese Buddhism, the travelogue of his journey to India in 629–645 CE, his efforts to bring over 657 Indian texts to China, and his translations of some of these texts. He was only able to translate 75 distinct sections of a total of 1335 chapters, "but his translations included some of the most important Mahayana scriptures.
