Between 1971 and 1976, the University of New Mexico's summer field school in archaeology conducted an inventory survey of 25 sections in the Tijeras Canyon-South Sandia area and excavated about one third of Tijeras Pueblo. From 1972 to 1975, the Laboratory of Anthropology of the Museum of New Mexico conducted survey, excavation, and ethnohistorical research in the canyon in connection with the expansion of Interstate 40. Contributors represent both institutions. If there are genetic descendants of the occupants of Tijeras Pueblo, they are most likely among the modern Pueblo Indians of New Mexico.
