About the author

I was born in Cardiff, S Wales, the fourth child of six. I left school without qualifications and at the age of 50 bit the bullet and did an MA at Cardiff University, following that with a PhD thanks to some nifty reverse psychology by a tutor. I love writing. I've been writing since the age of 8 and haven't stopped since. I've written some 30 books for children, two of which have won Tir na n-Og Awards as well as two adult historical novels about three members of Owain Glyndwr's family during the War of Independence that began in 1400. My work has also appeared in many anthologies of short stories and poetry, but my first love is writing for children, especially now that I'm a Granny to eight children and have the added joy of seeing the older ones reading ME! It gives me tremendous pleasure to work with both children and adults helping to foster a love of literature and creative writing. I currently live in Brittany, France but return to the UK as often as I can to work with children in schools and libraries, with student teachers in colleges and occasionally with adults, too.
