Author Cecilia Casrill Dartez uses the alphabet to host a guided tour of the Pelican State's many iconic images and symbols. Combining words and photographs, each page is another step in the colorful journey across the state. Dartez has selected some of the most interesting and popular items to emphasize here with an easy-to-read, alliterative text sure to draw the attention of young readers. She starts with "A stands for alligator and that absurd alligator smile" and runs past an "egret standing elegantly on an endless platform," gumbo, king cake, steamboats, trawlers, and umbrellas, culminating in some zippy zydeco. This alphabetic guidebook will please Louisianans and visitors alike. Chosen as a Louisiana Purchase Celebration-approved title, L Is for Louisiana has also been selected as a Louisiana School Standard text.
