RACISM The Great American Pastime: My Soul Cries Out Paperback -

From the publisher

The goal of this book is to inform and energize conscientious Americans about the dangers of "mainstreamed" racism before it becomes inculcated in our nation's political system. Racism is the fuel powering the nascent political strategy of "Politics by Division." America has already witnessed this brand of politics in the run up to the mid-term congressional elections. During the recent mid-term congressional elections, America witnessed extremist candidates winning their races while running on openly racist platforms. One of the lingering questions is: "Why does racism still attain power in the 21st century?" In this age of advance technology and enlightenment, why has America been unable to move beyond the Neanderthalic specter of racism? Racism, when operationalized, cuts across all African-American socioeconomic classes, leaving emotional scars that are slow to heal, if they heal at all. Whereas the slaveholder's whip left visible scars and disfigured the slaves' flesh, the scars from contemporary racism remain invisible and generally untreated. Many African Americans are reluctant to openly discuss racism with their white peers, fearing ostracization, labeling, and marginalization. I believe that the invisible vestiges of racism are one of the primary reasons that some white Americans tend to trivialize it. Racism is one of those subjects that we do not discuss; therefore, many Americans do not understand the full impact of racism which leads to its marginalization. Hopefully, this book will lead to more open dialog so that we can begin to tackle the more difficult racial issues openly and honestly.
