A Treasury of Great Recipes: Famous Specialties of the World's Foremost Restaurants Adapted for the American Kitchen

Mary & Vincent Price

New York: Ampersand Press, 1965. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/very good. Fritz Kredel. Printing of 1965. About As New in all respects; the acetate jacket has a half inch loss along the top of the front panel growing to two and half inches at the spine. First printing stated, no others noted. All is clean and unmarked including the notes and recipes section in the rear. In copper and gilt padded cover with a silk ribbon markers. The jacket has protected the gilt decorations very well. They glow. This is the finest copy of this sought after culinary tour-de-force that I have seen. A great collection of unusual recipes, illustrated with full page color photos of the food, the restaurants and the Prices, as well as drawings by Fritz Kredel. It has been said of this book: "Everything about this book screams "gracious dining." The Prices in their kitchen with gleaming copper pots. The reproductions of pages from vintage menus. The word "Luncheon." The two-color pen and ink illustrations. The padded leatherette binding with silk bookmark. This is not to say that the Prices are snobbish. They're cultured. And the scope and level of detail they bring to this book is loving and extraordinary." 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Hard Cover. s Every effort is made to ship all books and other items within 24 hours. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible. The Book Shed has a been a member of the Vermont Antiquarian Bookseller's Association since 1997. An online bookseller with a bookshop sensibility!

Ampersand Press, Inc, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1965. First Edition. Hardcover (Padded Boards). Good Condition (ex-library)/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Fritz Kredel. Introduction 1 by Cleveland Amory, Introduction 2 by Martha Hodge Amory and index. The text is illustrated with colour photographs, black-and-white photographs, and illustrations by Fritz Kredel. The endpages are decorated, both different: – front-end page lists some herbs and spices and their usual uses, the rear endpages show weights and measures and conversions. Red coloured padded faux leather binding with gilt coloured decoration and titles to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Dark pink coloured tint to all text block edges with dark red and apricots coloured faux silk place markers with fraying of the edges. Vincent Price and his wife Mary travelled the world and visited the great restaurants of the time to find their signature dishes. They then brought the recipes home and adapted them for the home cook. These are the adaptations. This book is a an ex library book and has the faults of same: – a previous owner has blacked out all library stamps in the book and the remains of the due back pocket can be seen to the front paste-down. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the same page. The book has been printed on various coloured stock, the majority a light yellow coloured stock. Where the dustwrapper was can be seen with erosion to the front and rear endpages and the illustration between page 178 and 179 has protruded past the text block edge and has become somewhat creased and a little chipped. Some fading of the tinting of the text block edges. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. [12], 13 - 456, [50 – including blank pages for favourite recipes, favourite guests, table of equivalence and calorie chart] pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
