About This Item

New York:, undated [1900].. Fine. Fine condition. Original Charcoal on paper. Image size: 11 x 15 inches. Sheet size: 12 1/2 x 19 inches. The canal scene is an unusual departure from Charles Livingston Bull's animal and nature compositions, and quite unlike his other work found to date. Perhaps due to its geometric nature- it was an early study on perspective. Nevertheless, the confident use of tonality predicts his eventual command of charcoal as his desired medium for rendering any subject matter.
