About This Item

Photographic Image. Very Good. Soft cover. 1947 Photo-Album. For some, the Salvation Army is their way of life -- photos of so many friends & families, at ease, in the Salvation Army summer camp/retreat in Ontario -- folks of all ages play in numerous brass bands -- and are seen enjoying each other's company in the summer of 1947. The Salvation Army was begun in 1865 in East London - its members preached and lived a practical Christianity ('soup, soap & salvation'). Brass bands were an early tradition in the Salvation Army; brass bands accompanied church services and created great public excitement. This 1947 Ontario, Canada Salvation Army photo-album shows D.M.C faculty & folks of all ages in band practices or socializing outdoors, country landscapes- photos & postcards/ women in a color guard/ boys line-up with trumpets/ ladies & home socials/ folks in uniform/ "Ladies of Leisure" group/ Army award ceremonies/ group of women & 2 male leaders, everyone in uniforms. The 7"x11" album is in very good condition. 74 b&w PHOTOS - and a few picture postcards, newspaper clippings. Domestic s&h $15..
