Friedkin made his name with this gritty adaptation of Robin Moore's non-fiction account of east coast drug trafficking. The screenplay was written by author Ernest Tidyman, one year after the publication of his seminal Harlem-based crime novel, "Shaft." Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor for Gene Hackman, along with three additional nominations. Orange titled wrappers.
