Based on the 1890 novel "La Bete Humaine" by Emile Zola and previously filmed under that title in 1938 by Jean Renoir. Blackmailed into remaining with her murderous husband Carl (Broderick Crawford), Vicki (Gloria Grahame) convinces her new lover Jeff (Glenn Ford) to kill Carl and recover the evidence of her involvement in a murder.
