George Pal created a series of stop motion animations called "Puppetoons" in the early 1940s after emigrating to the United States from Hungary. He was nominated for Academy Awards for seven consecutive years beginning in 1942, and received an honorary award in 1944. A feature length compilation of the "Puppetoons" was produced by Arnold Leibovit as "The Puppetoon Movie," released in 1987 featuring Art Clokey's famous animated characters Gumby and Pokey.
