Based on Per Anders Fogelstrom's 1951 novel. Two young lovers from Stockholm steal a boat and run away together, but are forced to return home as the summer ends. The first film to star director Ingmar Bergman's longtime leading lady Harriet Andersson, who would later appear in Bergman's "Sawdust and Tinsel" (1953), "Smiles of a Summer Night" (1955), "Through a Glass Darkly" (1961), and "Cries and Whispers" (1972).
Set in Sweden.
