- Used
Beverly Hills, CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer [MGM], 1962. Original US three-sheet poster for the 1962 film. An iconic image for an iconic film.
Kubrick's rendition of Nabokov's masterpiece is legendary in its own right, a work that stands ten feet above the rhetoric later raised by Nabokov's son and the resulting forgettable 1997 remake. Kubrick's carefully crafted film preserves the mystery, tragedy, and humor of Nabokov's source material, while adding a level of its own perversion-notably with its portrayal of Claire Quilty, represented in a performance by Peter Sellers that according to some sources was mostly improvised. And who could ever best Shelley Winters as Lolita's grasping mother, or James Mason as the long-suffering Humbert?
41 x 81 inches, linen-backed. Near Fine.

Description:
New York: Rand McNally & Co. , 1949. RARE lithograph wall chart for the device called the "Structural Differential" which Alfred Korzybski patented in 1925 as a means to aid in visualizing the process he called "abstracting". This was to be used as a training device in general semantics, a field of study Korzybski is credited with founding. The chart is Near Fine, rubbed lower right, mounted on two stained wooden dowels with ribbon hanger 18" wide by 38" high. Korzybski's work in semantics heavily influenced science fiction authors such as A.E. Van Vogt, Robert A. Heinlein, Poul Anderson, and H. Beam Piper, as well as L. Ron Hubbard and Joseph W. Campbell. His most famous quote "The map is not the territory" comes from this longer quote "A map is not the territory it represents, but, if correct, it has a similar structure to the territory, which accounts for its usefulness."( Science and Sanity, Korzybski, 1931). [China].: 軍事委員會政治訓練部. [Jun shi wei yuan hui zheng zhi xun lian bu].. [1926].. Chinese Kuomintang propaganda poster printed in red, issued by the Political Training Department of the Military Affairs Commission. Text in traditional Chinese. Chinese character for "one" at lower left apparently indicates more posters in this series. Small mark right edge, some light creases, very good. Sheet measures 78.6 x 26.8cm. The Double Tenth Day celebrates the Wuchang Uprising on October 10th 1911. The uprising took place in what is today the Wuchang district within Wuhan and brought about the end of the Qing Dynasty. This uprising was the first of a series of uprisings across China and by the end of 1911 there was really no doubt that the Qing Dynasty would fall. On February 12th, 1912 Empress Dowager Longyu formally abdicated the throne on behalf of Puyi. The publisher of this poster,…
