Hardcover bound in 3/4 brown leather with brown marbled paper-covered boards. The binding is worn but sound. The leather is starting to get dry but is still holding. There is a little splitting to the leather on the rear outer hinge near the foot of the spine. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. Untrimmed fore edge has some brown stains that stay on the edges of the margins. A couple of handwritten dates are written in pencil on the last page of text. Contains several illustrations, mostly portraits.

Hardcover bound in light tan quarter cloth with brown paper-covered boards and housed in a red dust jacket which may or may not be original to the book. (The jacket does not have the book's title but states "...with best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" from Nicholson's Book Shop in Richmond, Indiana). The jacket is heavily damped and worn. This has minimal effect on the binding, but there is a bit of damping on the lower corner of the first few pages, and there is heavy red damping in the rear flyleaf. The book is sound and is clean within. Scarce.

Hardcover bound in original full brown leather with a red leather label on the spine. Ribbed spine. Front hinge is cracked and holding by one cord at the bottom band. The binding is worn and bumped. The text block is sound. Early owner's signature on the front flyleaf is of Sam'l Titus or Tiles or Jiles. Another similar signature in pencil on the rear flyleaf is dated 1846. The ink signature on the front flyleaf looks much closer to the original publication of the book. The text is toned and shows foxing and has some possible damp spots. Two main parts in one volume with a separate title page for his Journal at the front and a separate title page for the Second Part after page 250 (the pagination runs continuously through both parts of the book). Hardcovers in burgundy cloth, with title in gilt on front covers and spines. All volumes have moderate wear, including some heavy spotting (foxing) and rubbing. Some corners are bumped, some fore-edges are bumped. There is a dent in the spine (on the title) on Volume VI. All edges of text blocks are foxed, and the text has sporadic foxing. Interior is a bit musty. A sound set. Set includes the original receipt from Blackwell's in England, circa 1966.

Bound in flexible brown Meritian Goatskin Leather. The binding measures just about 9 1/2 inches tall by 6 1/4 inches wide. All edges gilt, although when one flips through the text, the fore edge appears green. The binding shows just about no wear. A fresh, clean copy. Contains 12 pages of color maps at the rear. The publisher's box shows light to moderate rubbing and wear. Overall a very nice copy.
