VERY IMPRESSIVE and VERY LARGE MARITIME PANORAMA VIEW OF SMYRNA ( modern IZMIR in TURKEY) AS SEEN FROM THE GULF OF IZMIR ( Coast of the Aegean Sea) TOWARDS THE OLD PORT with a large group of sailing boats. At the background MOUNT PAGOS with the ancient FORTRESS OF KADIFEKALE ( indicated by Nr.1) . Drawn from nature by the famous Dutch traveler and topographer Cornelis de Bruyn (1652-1726) this is an ACCURATE depiction how Izmir looked , as seen from the Sea in the late 17th century. Etching (copper plate) connected originally from two plates and folded as issued. Net Size of the etching: 98 x 27,5 cm. Size with margins: 100 x 39cm.FIRST EDITION. Dated: DELFT 1698. Published in " Reizen van Cornelis de Bruyn...". RARE LARGE PAPER EDITION with exceptional large margins. Excellent condition! Strong and fresh paper quality, even fresh tone on the margins, clear imprint of the etching. No restaurations!
