About This Item
N.p.: SITO-STAMPA STOJKOV/NOVI SAD, 1971. Vintage Yugoslavian two-color silkscreen half-sheet poster from the 1971 film, with the film title in Serbo-Croatian, French, German, and English.
A whirlwind hybrid of documentary, detournement, and fiction, Yugoslavian filmmaker Dusan Makavejev explores the relationship between Eastern European communist politics and sex. Beginning as a documentary investigation into the life and work of controversial psychologist and philosopher Wilhelm Reich, the film swiftly morphs into a free-form narrative of the sexual liberation of a young Slavic girl, featuring intercuts from other films, notably Mikheil Chiaureli's 1946 Stalinist propaganda film "The Vow." The film was banned for 16 years after its release in its country of origin, Yugoslavia.
Shot on location in Maine, New York, and Pennsylvania, USA, Yugoslavia, Serbia, and Beijing, China.
19.25 x 27.25 inches. Very Good plus, with horizontal center crease, with rubbing at crease, else a bright and unfaded fluorescent green.
Criterion Collection 389. Ebert III. Rosenbaum 1000. Vogel, Film as a Subversive Art.
