Biblio.com is offering a scholarship for the 2018 Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar

2018 Colorado Antiquarian Bookseller Seminar scholarship from Biblio!

We are excited to announce that we are again offering a scholarship to the 2018 Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS).

Are you a bookseller, or a serious book collector who wants to increase their knowledge about the identification, valuation, restoration, and selling of rare and antiquarian books? CABS is the educational conference of your dreams! Our scholarship is now open to you. Here’s what we cover:

  • the full cost of tuition for the seminar ($1250)
  • $250 towards accommodations at the facilities provided by the seminar
  • $250 to be donated to a literacy or education-based non-profit of your choice

To apply for the scholarship, you must provide an essay of around 500 words that introduces your chosen field of expertise or specialization in your book collection. We may publish this article on its websites will full attribution, of course! Please also provide a brief description of your preferred literary charity and why they are your choice.

The deadline for applications/articles is May 7, 2018. Please send all applications to scholarship@biblio.com. A drawing is held among qualified entrants to find the winner. The scholarship winner will be notified within 7 days of the application deadline.

Biblio.com is excited to offer a scholarship to the 2017 Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar!

Biblio is offering a scholarship to the 2017 Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar. This year, we are ding something different and opening our scholarship to both book sellers and book collectors.

This year’s scholarship recipient will receive:

  • The full cost of tuition
  • $250 toward accommodations at the facilities provided by the seminar
  • $250 donation to a non-profit of their choice that promotes literacy and/or education

The scholarship is open to book sellers and book collectors.

Applicants should provide:

  • An essay written to explain their chosen field of expertise to someone new to book collecting. Around 500 words is ideal. Biblio may, at its discretion, publish your article on its websites and will provide you with full credit and links to your business, where applicable.
  • A brief description of the charity you would choose to receive the donation and why you chose them. (no more than one single-spaced page)

Author E.R. Braithwaite (1912-2016)

Guyanese author E.R. Braithwaite has passed away at the venerable age of 104. Braithwaite is best known for his award-winning novel To Sir, With Love. This autobiographical tale tells of his time as a schoolteacher in the East End of London. The book was made into a film starring Sidney Poitier and the singer Lulu. And yet we do sell books. Actual physical books that people still buy, even in this age when every form of media can be delivered digitally and often instantaneously.

I can understand why a person would say that…that no one buys books anymore.

And yet, people like to talk about books, whether they’re doom and glooming it about the decline of the book or mourning a burned down library or – in what is happily more and more becoming my reality – talking about how much they love books. And, in so far as our very subjective experience as people who sell books goes, people do buy books.
