Books Renewed has been awarded the 2015 Don Dario Scholarship!

Biblio would like to thank to each and every applicant for the 2015 Don Dario scholarship for the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar.

We receive quite a few applications for the Don Dario scholarship every year from our worthy booksellers and it is always difficult to choose only one of them to win! After much deliberation, the selection committee has chosen Christopher Korczak of Books Renewed to be the recipient of the tuition scholarship for 2015. Congratulations, Christopher!

Christopher will receive the full cost of tuition for attendance, $250 toward travel and accommodations, and have all monthly fees rebated for one year of Biblio’s lowest commission billing option.  There is also a $250 donation heading to Little Free Libraries to help us to promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide.

We wish Christopher a safe journey and a wonderful time in Colorado! We hope that he returns to Books Renewed in Massachusetts with a new wealth of knowledge about rare and antiquarian books.

Winner of the 2014 Don Dario Scholarship

Black Paw Books has been awarded the 2013 Don Dario Scholarship!

Biblio would like to thank to each and every applicant for the 2014 Don Dario scholarship for the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar.

Every year we receive many applications for the Don Dario scholarship from our worthy booksellers and it is quite difficult to choose only one of them to win! After much deliberation, the selection committee has chosen Charles Schmieg of Black Paw Books (newly renamed Novanglus Books) to be the recipient of the tuition scholarship for 2014. Congratulations, Charles!

Charles will receive the full cost of tuition for attendance, $250 toward travel and accommodations, and he will also have all monthly bookseller listing fees rebated for one year on our lowest commission billing option. There is also a $250 donation on its way to Room to Read, a non-profit literacy group, to assist them with their literacy education and gender equality campaigns in the developing world.

Everyone here at Biblio wishes Charles a safe journey, a wealth of knowledge to take back home to his bookshop in Rhode Island, and an overall wonderful time in Colorado!

Firstly, thank you to Biblio for awarding me the 2013 Don Dario Scholarship to attend the 2013 CABS seminar. I traveled a long way (from New Zealand), and the assistance from Biblio was a great help.

I would definitely recommend CABS (Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar) for anyone with a serious interest in book selling. In today’s world, the traditional bookselling model of opening up a brick-and-mortar bookshop, and then sitting back and waiting for customers to walk through the door, is increasingly becoming less viable.

Winner of the 2013 Don Dario Scholarship

Each year, we receive a slew of applications from completely worthy and wonderful booksellers, and the hardest part is choosing only one of them to win!  After much deliberation, the selection committee has chosen Malcolm Moncrief-Spittle of Renaissance Books to be the recipient of the tuition scholarship for 2013.  Congratulations, Malcolm!

Malcolm will receive the full cost of tuition for attendance, $250 toward travel and accommodations, and have all monthly fees rebated for one year of Biblio’s lowest commission billing option.    There is also a $250 donation heading to the Alan Duff Charitable Foundation (better known as Duffy Books in Homes) to assist them with their laudable goal of providing free books to over 100,000 New Zealand children, three times a year.

This year’s scholarship recipient will receive:

* The full cost of tuition

* $250 toward accommodations at the facilities provided by the seminar

* $250 donation to a non-profit of their choice that promotes literacy and/or education

Additionally, the winner will receive one free year of listing fees, along with Biblio’s lowest commission option.

 The scholarship is open to any registered Biblio.com bookseller.

Applicants should provide:

1. A few paragraphs on why you hope to attend the Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar. (no more than one single-spaced page)

2. A brief description of the charity you would choose to receive the donation and why you chose them. (again, no more than one single-spaced page)

Email your entry and/or any questions about the scholarship to scholarship@biblio.com by July 1, 2013.

The scholarship winner will be notified within 7-10 days of the application deadline.

Act 2 Books Named Recipient of 2012 Don Dario Scholarship

The selection committee was amazed by this year’s Don Dario scholarship application essays for the 2012 Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar. The entries this year were universally high quality, and after much deliberation, our committee has selected Mike Uhde of Act 2 Books for this year’s scholarship.

In addition to full tuition to the week-long seminar and $250 toward travel and accommodation expenses, Uhde will have all monthly fees rebated for one year of Biblio’s lowest commission billing option.

Congratulations to Grateful Dead Books LLC!

Thanks to everyone who applied for this year’s Don Dario scholarship to the 2011 Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar. The process of naming one winner is always extremely difficult for our selection committee, but this year brought a record number of applicants, and the entries this year were universally high quality.

After much deliberation, our committee has selected Hamlin Endicott of Grateful Dead Books LLC for this year’s scholarship.

In addition to full tuition to the week-long seminar and $250 toward travel and accommodation expenses, Hamlin will have all monthly fees rebated for one year of Biblio’s lowest commission billing option.

Hamlin has chosen the Georgia Humanities Council for the $250 charitable contribution portion.

We wish Hamlin great travels, and anxiously await hearing about his experiences at the seminar.
