London: Hutchinson. Very Good in Very Good- dust jacket. 1952. First Edition. Hardcover. 144 pages; Clean and secure in original bluecloth binding in very good dustjacket (some foxing). Former owner's name on ffep - "Leonard S. Cottrell, Jr." Leonard Slater Cottrell (1899 -1985) was an American sociologist and 40th President of the American Sociological Association. Cotrell studied at Vanderbilt University after the First World War to master's degree in sociology. Then he moved to the University of Chicago, where he continued to study, in addition to working as a probation officer. In 1935 he went to Cornell University as a sociology professor. During the Second World War Cotrell worked with with Samuel Andrew Stouffer in military sociological research. After the war, he returned to Cornell University. In 1951 he became a researcher at the Russell Sage Foundation for 17 years and at the end of his academic career moved to Chapel Hill and taught at the University of North Carolina for five years.; Signed by Notable Personage, Related .
