136 pages with photographs, figures and bibliography. Quarto (11 1/4" x 8 3/4") bound in original publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering to spine in original pictorial wrappers. First edition.
They stand on a hilltop in the mountains of Minas Gerais in Brazil twelve dramatic figures, twelve Old Testament prophets soundlessly crying their warnings to mankind. There they have stood for over two centuries, masterpieces by that strange, unhappy sculptor, Antonio Francisco Lisboa or, as he is better known, Aleijadinho, "The Little Cripple."
Condition: Jacket corners, spine ends and edges chipped with closed tears and small loss to spine ends and edges, price clipped quarter inch chip to back head edge else very good in like jacket.
