King Narai, a sick man even before the outbreak, died two months' later a prisoner in his own palace in Lopburi, displaced but still nominally king. The revolution was followed by the reversal of an unpopular foreign policy, dependence upon France, and at the same time a severe rebuff was delivered to Louis XIV' advisers, who aspired to subvert Siam's national religion by attempting to convert the King to Roman Catholicism. The memoir by Father Beze, a Jesuit priest, was discovered in 1936 in the Morrison Library in Tokyo.
