London: George Graves and John Harding, 1817. Enlarged edition. Very good +. 11.75 X 18.75 We will be offering a number of original hand colored engravings from Curtis' FLORA LONDINENSIS. These are from the enlarged edition of 1817. The print measures 11.75 x 18.75 inches, with a plate mark of 8 3/4 x 14.25 inches. This is a hand colored engraving on high quality watermarked paper dated 1815 and made by W.Balston & Co. It is a beautiful decorative antique print expertly colored and beautifully composed. Curtis' work was the first study of British flora, and artists contributing to the opus included James Sowerby, Sydenham Teak Edwards, Francis Sansom and William Kilburn. This particular plate, Glaucium Corniculatum, is quite bright and clean. The background paper color is lighter than my camera is portraying it, and is slightly off-white. The plate is full margined, and has not been trimmed. The text page which accompanied the print will be included. Purchases may be combined for the best shipping price. Many of the wildflowers of London have their counterparts in North America.

Square 4to, publisher’s original pictorial boards in the original decorated dustjacket. (30). A fine, bright copy.
