1865 Autograph Letter Signed by Henry Vincent, English Radical, while on Anti-Slavery Tour in America by Henry Vincent

Ten line letter written by English reformer Henry Vincent while on tour in America, March 1865, espousing anti-slavery beliefs through public lecture. In this letter, Vincent is trying to tactfully suggest his availability to lecture further into the month of May and asks his recipient to contact him at his present address in Richmond, Indiana.

By 1865, when this letter was written, Henry Vincent (1813-1878) had long been established as a radical. As early as the 1830s he was involved in radical circles and became a very successful lecturer. ODNB does not mention Vincent being in America in 1865, but states: "His strong advocacy of the north in the American Civil War made him a welcome visitor when he arrived in the United States. He made lecturing tours in September 1866, October 1867, the winter of 1869, and again in the winter of 1875-6. On all these occasions he was enthusiastically received."
