BACKGROUND:Thomas Hardy, (2 June 1840 – 11 January 1928) was an English novelist and poet. A Victorian realist in the tradition of George Eliot, he was influenced both in his novels and in his poetry by Romanticism, especially William Wordsworth. He was highly critical of much in Victorian society, especially on the declining status of rural people in Britain, such as those from his native South West England.Hardy's Wessex novels are among the finest examples of naturalism, a kind of realism influenced by scientific observation. His extensive research – keeping newspaper clippings and 'facts' notebooks – is what makes the idyllic Wessex county with its evocative descriptions of landscapes, wildlife and local tradespeople so believable.
CONDITION:Conditions are Good/Good+. Some wear to edges, rubbed hinges, color added over some hinges, eight re-backed with spine strip laid down, pages a bit age toned/brown, few marks to boards, glue added to a few upper/lower hinges, most hinges are good, text blocks are very good!
