About This Item
New York: Gorham MFG. Co., Silversmiths. Very Good. 1897. First Edition. Softcover. Orignal gray paper wraps with blank ink title print on the cover. 7" X 5.5". 57 pp. Two color ink. Probably a promotional book for fine dining silver. Includes full page illustrations of salad sets and bowls with catalog numbers, presumably for sale by Gorham Silversmiths. Although this publisher, Gorham MFG. was not found on OCLC, Identical titles offered by 3 other establishments were found with 4 total holdings on OCLC. One other copy found within the trade. Uncommon. The original paper covers are heavily edge worn and the spine paper is mostly missing. A few pages are shadow toned. Otherwise a clean copy with sound binding. "Perhaps no company in the world extended the influence of tableware design more than Gorham, founded in Providence in 1831. From a small silversmith shop that began by making handcrafted teaspoons, Gorham grew to become the worlds leading manufacturer in tableware design and production in its heyday. As it grew, Gorham Manufacturing catered mainly to the wealthy and the influential with its fine silver products."(Rhodeside Diaries) .
