About This Item

London, England: JMP Journal, 2005. First Edition. First Printing.. Softcover. Fine/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. London, England: JMP Journal, 2005. Softcover. Fine/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. Unpaginated. Retrospective collection of photographs. One of Martin Parr's finest achievements. The first and only edition. Published in a one-time-only print run of 500 copies as a softcover original only. None of the copies was commercially sold. The First Edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by John McAslan and Associates: Oversize tabloid format. Pristine-white softcovers with titles on the cover, as issued. Photographs by Martin Parr. Brief text by John McAslan. Printed on pristine-white, thick uncoated stock paper in the United Kingdom to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is exemplary in every respect. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Martin Parr's "A8". Some of his most evocatively beautiful photographs ever, of a place that is several things simultaneously. "A motorway, a dual carriageway, and finally a local road connecting Post Glasgow to Greenock, Gourock, and Dunoon. I grew up there, and retain a great affection for the raw and intense beauty of the place. For some time, I've wondered how I might express this. So I asked Martin Parr to collaborate on a project to record these towns and the people who live and work there. The result is here: A celebration of life along the A8 corridor" (John McAslan) . "A8" is a mellowing (in the positive sense) of Martin Parr's saturated colors and matching astringent sensibility. It shows that the latter does have a more restrained, emotional, and even sentimental side. The formal use of color, a Parr trademark, is deployed using a less intense, more muted, and more subdued palette that people familiar with Parr's work in the same lyrical vein (such as "West Bay") will find unexpectedly moving. An absolute "must-have" title for Martin Parr collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the Back Cover by Martin Parr. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great collection. This is one of few such signed copies of the First Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Published in a print run of 500 copies only. None of the copies was commercially sold. A rare signed copy thus. 28 color plates. The most influential and most important British photographer of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER MARTIN PARR TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0014742853.
