Thomas Richards. Very Good. 69pp. A lovely copy of this scarce book. Illustrated with 7 illustrations plus a frontispiece - all steel engravings - 2 coloured. Bound in original red publisher's cloth with gilt embossed lettering to the spine and a black embossed image of an aboriginal man to the front board (which is also on the title page). Bevelled edges. Scarce - only 500 copies ever printed. Fading to the spine with bumps to the head and tail of the spine with some associated rubbing. Light patchy soiling to the boards. Some more noticable soil marks to the front board with a few small stain marks at the head of the board - the largest being about 2cm in length. Light rubbing to the board corners. Splitting to the front inner hinge - the text block remains quite firmly attached - hardly any shaking. Contemporary ink inscription to the reverse of the front end paper dated 26th February 1884 (To Rasali Gubb...from her uncle Russell (?)). Light foxing to the reverse of the front end paper and half title page and more marked foxing to the reverse of the rear end paper and the last illustration page. There is also some foxing to the two colour plates and to the margins of the other illustration plates. There is some foxing/toning to pp. 64 - 65 Despite these faults the book is tight and clean. A very good minus copy in very original condition of a scarce and charming book.
