Hardcover, full leather binding decorated on front with portrait of Lincoln. The book is in poor shape with both the front and rear boards detached, most of spine is missing. The internal binding is complete though the front decorated end page is also detached. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings present. Remaining pages are secure though paper is toned due to age. First edition thus with a single date of 1892 appearing on the title and copyright pages with no additional printings listed. Tissue guard to frontispiece is still present and attached. All exterior page edges gilt. This book is in rough shape and is basically in pieces, but is complete. As a first edition this is a good candidate for rebinding.

1892 hardcover as pictured. This is a very handsome edition that has seen some wear. Binding is intact. Embossed green cloth boards with beveled edges and gold stamping are lightly soiled and show some edge wear with fraying at head and tail of spine and at corners. Patterned endpapers. Small piece of rear endpaper is missing. Front hinge is lightly cracked. Many pages of text have pencil markings that do not affect readability.
