Seattle: Woman's Century Club of Seattle, 1898. Very good.. 28pp. 16mo. Original printed wrappers, stapled. Light wear and soiling, light chipping to spine. Ink scrawl to blank verso of second leaf, one word underlined on first page of text. An unrecorded work on the legal rights of women. This fascinating little pamphlet outlines the various rights of women in different areas of the law in Washington state at the turn of the century, such as political, civil, matrimonial, in cases of divorce and custody, estates, and property rights. "The aim of the following pages, is to give an abstract of the statutory law, in so far as it especially relates to the rights and duties of women." The work was published under the auspices of the Woman's Century Club of Seattle. The Club was founded in 1891 by noted suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt. The website of the Club -- which is still active today -- calls itself a "social club focused on women's history, the arts, education, and community service." An ephemeral little piece, likely printed in limited numbers. We find no record of it in OCLC.
