About This Item

New York: Farrar & Rinehart, 1936. First edition. Hardcover rebound by library in blue cloth.. Very Good. The author of the famous SPoon River Anthology (poems) decribes his life in Illinois, influences and struggles. Masters seldome met a woman he did nto fall for and his account of these romances is part of the charm of the book, as is his descriptions of farm, village, and city life from the last days of the 19th century through the 1920s and into the start of the depression. As csn be expected from a poet, there are some fine descriptins, especially of the people he meets. Masters was friends with many of the authors of the period, such as Theodore Dreiser.

Although ex-library and rebound, the book itself is in excellent contidtion. There are several light stamps from the Pana (Illinois) libary on the edges of the pages and the title page. In the rebinding, the front and back forms have their margins squeezed. There are eleven excellent photographs of the author, his family, early homes, etc.
