New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1907. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Good+/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. These books are clean, basically tight, square with good corners and unmarked. They are mildly sunned at the spines. Volume II has pull tears at the ends of the spine with the one on the top producing a chip. Also volume II has been opened hard at page 209 and the illustration there is loose at the bottom. They have 396, 511 pages, gilt edged at the top, deckle edged elsewhere profusely illustrated with black & white, photographic plated and a large, color, fold-out map, bound in green cloth covered boards with gold titles on the spine and gold lines and titles on the front. NAP indicates first edition.

Printed on laid paper by The Chapel River Press. -- Illustrated by 160 half-tone reproductions of photographs and a 12x34-inch color map of the route. There is a small map of Lake Tchad as partly surveyed by the author. Landor states of his journey of 8,500 miles over one year, "Pleasure was its sole object." -- Hardcover, 396+511 pages, 7.5x10x4.3 inches, bright spine and cover lettering on navy blue cloth. Condition: very good minus (mild to heavy foxing throughout--the glossy plates are not affected; tips lightly bumped; no jackets). A substantial and attractive copy.

Illustrated with 160 half-tone reproductions of photographs and a map of the Route. First UK Edition/First Printing. Bound in cloth boards with titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Landor was an English painter, writer and explorer who travelled the world. With an assignment to paint Menelik II, Emperor of Ethiopia, Landor took the opportunity to make a trip across Africa. The journey took about a year and he covered eight thousand miles. Arnold Henry Savage Landor (2 June 1865 – 26 December 1924) was an English painter, explorer, writer, and anthropologist. Landor wrote in an often witty style. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

Both volumes original blue cloth with volume 1 upper cover and both spines sunned, brownish. Both books embossed gilt borders and titles on upper cover and gilt titles on spine.
