True 1st edn was CAPE (UK),1965,and issued with a clear cellophane dw/dj).VG+.No owner inscrptn,no dw/dj.All corners slightly bumped with light grubbing to boards partly in fact to absence of dw/dj and being in proximity of other books. Spine/backstrip very lightly faded with minimal bumping and reciprocal creasing to same.Top edge slightly dust-soiled and darkened - as usual/ normal,fore-edge similar but to a much lesser degree.Contents clean and sound. A novel format made up from 80 of Deighton's Daily Express Cookstrips'.Of the CAPE,HB 1st edn,only 7,500 copies were printed,and now very scarce,and expensive. London: Cape, 1963. First Edition. UNCORRECTED PROOF of the First UK Edition. A softcover. Usual Cape pale green wrappers with Cape logos. Minor surface loss in places to the spine and a couple of faint creases to the bottom left hand corner of the rear cover. Overall VG indeed. I do not believe that this proof was issued with a proof dust wrapper. NB: a note on Cape proofs of this title. There are 3 Cape proofs noted (with no priority established) and I am indebted to Jon Gilbert the noted Deighton specialist at Adrian Harrington for bringing this to my attention. This is an example of the rarest of the three known proofs. The Lettering to the front cover of the Action Cook Book proof is in SERIPH type-face and below the Author's name there are additional words: Designed by Paul Peter Piech F.S.T.D.
