However, the wake he laid as a result of his actions, had him and his crew defined as renegades...

Heritage Books, Inc.. New. Together With The Awards Made By The Board Of Canal Appraisers; Also A Supplement Showing The Claims Presented, Determined And Pending Before The Canal Board And The Canal Appraisers, From 1866 To 1870, InclusiveWhat first appears to be a rather boring title is in actuality quite an interesting collection of genealogical material regarding claims made for damages caused by the canals in the New York State canal system Surprisingly, there are also a few requests for military compensation from enlistment in the Civil War and the War of 1812 If you had an ancestor who lived on land that adjoined a canal, perhaps he filed a claim with the Canal Board The digest of claims, presented alphabetically, gives a short paragraph describing the nature of each claim, followed by a short paragraph or two describing the legislative action taken to satisfy the claim The second half of the book, the “supplement,” is actually two alphabetical lists of claimants and claims The first list… Read More

Washington DC: T. Barnard, 1849. Very good.. 14pp. Gathered signatures, stitched. Moderate edge wear and foxing, first leaf a bit darkened along edges. A scarce work relating to continuing efforts by Commodore Edwin Ward Moore to recover vast sums of money he personally assumed while serving as the commander of the Texas Navy in 1840. At that time, Moore was tasked by President Sam Houston to blockade the Mexican coast, but without proper funding for supplies. President Houston was furious that Moore defied orders and assisted the Yucatan rebels. President Houston accused Moore of a host of serious charges, including willful… Read More
