About This Item

The First UK printing published by Elkin Mathews & Marrot Ltd, London in 1930 . The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition. Top edge gilt. A little pushing at the spine ends with a little toning to the board edges. Light spotting to the text-block. A few light spots to the prelims. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The very scarce original WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. It is separated along the front spine fold but comes together very well. Some tape reinforcement to the verso at the rear upper edges and to a small closed tear to the lower front edge. This does not show through to the front. Some loss at the spine ends extending slightly across the upper rear cover edge. Some age related toning to the spine. Minor edge wear with a little rubbing at the corners. The original paper titled label to the front cover is complete and is in near fine condition. The wrapper presents very well in the removable Brodart archival cover. A colourfully illustrated limited edition of Robert Herring's 'Adam and Evelyn at Kew'. A limited edition, this is number 96 of 1060 numbered copies, with numbers 1-1000 being for sale, and numbers 1001-1060 for presentation. 'Adam and Evelyn at Kew' is in part a history of Kew Gardens, and a retelling of Adam and Eve, with Kew Gardens being their Eden. Profusely Illustrated by Edward Bawden who provides thirteen coloured plates, six coloured in text illustrations, and decorations to the cover boards and wrapper. With coloured maps to the endpapers. Scarce with such attributes, the first we have handled with the original wrapper. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
