New York: Steam Printing Office of the R.O.A. Industrial School, 1880 A fairly solid book clean and bright. A small numerical notation on opposing title page but otherwise unmarked by signatures. A bookplate has been removed from front pastedown endpaper leaving a white pull on the bron endpaper.. Frone endpaper split to webbing but boards still attached.. Gilt page edges still bright. Brown embiossed cloth boards with black decorative border and a title framed with a gilt design. 1 1/4 inch split on top front spine but all spine present. Shelfwear rubbling and bumping present to all edges but as would be expected for a book of this age.

New York: Steam Press of the H. O. A. Industrial School, 1885. First edition. Hardcover. g. Octavo. XII, 294, XII, 376pp. Original gold and black-stamped burgundy cloth. Top edges gilt. Tissue-guarded engraved frontispiece depicting the Hebrew Orphan Asylum. Decorative head-, tailpieces and initials. This work is a collection of sermons delivered before the children of the Hebrew Orphan Asylum, a Jewish orphanage in New York City founded in 1860 by the Hebrew Benevolent Society. The orphanage closed in 1941, after pedagogical research concluded that children thrive better in foster care or small group homes, rather than in large institutions. The successor organization is the Jewish Child Care Association. Moderate rubbing along edges of bindings. Previous owner's Ex-libris on each front free endpaper (Harvey B. Franklin).
