(spg) Bruns H-123. Sabin 31147. "New Edition: With additional matter, including the results of a recent Topographical Survey by Verplanck Colvin, by order of the State; also the first correct map of the Wilderness, the first accurate Table of Elevations, the Source of the Hudson, etc ." (sub-title). An account of two trips through the Adirondack Mountains of Upper New York State by historian and politician (New York Secretary of State 1856-1857), Joel Tyler Headley (1813-1897). Headley's writings are noted for calling attention to the Adirondacks for fisherman, hunters and tourists. He also gives arguments for the creation of a State Park. Bruns gives a good note on the early days of Scribner's, and the get success of the talented author, whose book on Napoleon sold nearly a million copies, unheard of in those days. This edition is uncommon. .

Some looseness to binding, notably at frontis where frontis and tissue guard have separated from sewn binding. Pages with some wear and aging, particularly spotting to endpapers and edges. Illustrations present and intact, but with some age spotting. This is most notable to the frontispiece.
