About This Item

Boston: The Golden Rule Publishing Company, 1877. First Edition. Octavo. 459 pages. Illustrated. The author wrote an influential series of articles and books which popularized the Adirondack Mountains in Upstate New York. He became known as the father of the Outdoor Movement and is among the major writers who caused tens of thousands of New Englanders to travel to the unspoiled wilderness in the Adirondacks. An important classic on American early perceptions of the environment to be enjoyed rather than exploited. Bound in green cloth over beveled boards lettered in black centrally stamped in gilt depicting a rifle and oar, spine lettering gilt, light wear to spine ends and corners. A very good copy.
