Hard cover, 16mo, in pictorial illustrated brown cloth blocked in black and gold with images of a deer, and woodsy scene of a log cabin and canoe to the top board. 295 pp. plus 7 pages advertising, several of which feature vintage engraved illustration for fishing equipment and the like. Printed by Rand Avery Company, Boston. Fontispiece portrait of the author, with tissue guard. No other plates. Contains ten short stories which the author describes as "clippings of the chisel" compared to his "larger and more pretentious works." Stories include: "John Norton's Christmas," Henry Herbert's Thanksgiving," A Strange Visitor," "Lost in the Woods (a fragment)," "A Jolly Camp," Was it Suicide?" Very Good. 5 volumes. frontis ((portrait of the author) in each volume, xiii, 420, 397, 330, 373, 339p. Original burgundy cloth. 21 cm. Each volume has an Inked quotation from these "Adirondack Tales" signed by Murray on the otherwise blank leaf between the frontis and title-page. Some staining on first several pages in Volume 1 and along the top of the back cover and last couple of leaves in Volume II. No jackets. Laid in the first volume is a printed promotional letter for this set signed by F. M. Murray, Secretary of Adirondack Pub. Co. from the Murray Homestead in Guilford, CT, offering 150 sets of Adirondack Tales as an Author's Edition with "... a quotation written by him [the author] in his characteristic hand and signature in full...." This set appears to be one of these otherwise unidentified "Author's Edition" sets offered in our accompanying promotional letter at $2 per volume.
