Paris,: Martin & George Jouvenel,, 1705.. [xxiv], 180, [iv] pp. 12mo (9,3 x 15 cm.). Contemporary full calf, spine with 5 raised bands, in compartments gilt, gilt lettered on red morocco label (gilt is faintly; top and bottom of spine with some slight loss of leather; sorners slightly rubbed; joints a little worn), red edges. ¶ Very rare. Second enlarged French edition (first is 1689) of Talbor's "The English Remedy" (1682). Talbor, an untrained "quack" was instrumental to popularize the use of cinchona in Europe. He made a fortune by curing hundreds of royal and aristocatic persons, including Louisa Maria, Queen of Spain, Prince de Condé, Duc de Roche-Foucauld, Charles II, Louis XIV, etc. An attractive copy, despite the somewhat worn binding, inner bright an clean.
