Evanston: Douglas C. McMurtrie. Near Fine. 1941. First Edition. Brochure. 4 pages; Large four page brochure designed and printed by Douglas McMurtrie for presentation to his friends for Christmas 1941. The front cover is a reproduction of the fabulous manger scene by Albrecht Durer dated 1511, the interior bears McMurtrie's printed Christmas salutations, the rear panel presents McMurtie's explanatory text on Durer and this woodcut in particular in double columns. A wonderful survivor house in its original stiff card mailing envelope, addressed to Mr. John Vance (Law Librarian) at the Library of Congress. Douglas Crawford McMurtrie (1888 1944) was an American typeface designer, graphic designer, historian and bibliographer of printing. .

At The Antiquarian Book Shop, located in Georgetown - an historic neighborhood of Washington, D.C. we have been buying, selling & appraising rare, interesting and scholarly books in Georgetown for more than 30 years.
